Should I upgrade my CiviCRM, Drupal, or Joomla installation?

Over the past few years, CiviCRM, Drupal, and Joomla! have undergone some version changes that affect the look and feel as well as the backend structure of the software.

  • Drupal 4.x is no longer supported
  • Joomla! 1.x will no longer be supported after July 22, 2009
  • CiviCRM is only accepting issues for version 2.1 and higher

When considering upgrading your software, you may have heard us utter the familiar phrase, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." There are times when it doesn't make sense to upgrade right away. Here are a just a few:

  • You're able to get the security patches necessary to feel good about the version you're using
  • Some portion of the software you're using has been highly customized and isn't easy to upgrade
  • You're pretty self-sufficient when it comes to fixing issues
  • It's not in the budget (whether you're a "do-it-yourselfer" or hire someone, expect at least 10 hours of work for major verison upgrades)

Upgrading requires a decent amount of planning. We've completed major version upgrades for CiviCRM, Drupal, and Joomla! Get in touch with us if you need help with the upgrade process.
