Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the name Data-Scribe® come from?

It refers to our skills and our initial services: database programming (Brett) and business and technical writing (Leila). Bringing those skills together has allowed us to create a business focused on Web site solutions.

Are you a franchise?

Data-Scribe® is an independent company - not a franchise and not affiliated with any particular software developer or company. Our registered servicemark is our own.

Do you outsource your projects to offshore companies?

Outsourcing has become quite a taboo word. While we don't completely ship a project off to another company or country, we do have team members from all over that assist us with our projects. As a virtual company, we all work from our own homes or offices. This allows us to recruit the best talent for the project while we remain in control every step of the way.

How do you give back?

In the past, we have provided service grants for Web site development. Right now, we offer discounted hosting services and lease-to-own Web site packages through our sister site Social Mission Web Host. Also, starting in 2009, we began contributing $1 of each client's monthly hosting fee to nonprofits whose missions we support. Lastly, we volunteer our services and time through Webinars, in-person presentations, and contributing advice or program enhancements back to the open source community as much as we can.

What do you mean by "in-service" days?

You'll notice on our Contact Us page that we are only open to the public Tuesday through Thursday. Mondays and Fridays are our in-service days when we:

  • Complete project work
  • Catch up on our business operations and marketing tasks
  • Do not hold any client or sales meetings
  • Address critical, urgent issues with clients' Web sites, e-mail, or hosting accounts
